The Upward Journey

Virgil Warren, christir.org PDF

Colossians 3:1 speaks of Christ seated on the right hand of God’s throne. Jesus himself pictured the path to life for us on earth as narrow, passing through the “strait” gate, a path that few seem to find. In his own case, the narrow path was also an uphill climb that led through calvary, the empty tomb through the ascension above the clouds to the right hand of the Father.

The general pattern applies to those of us who make an effort to be his followers. For some of us, the narrow, uphill path may lead through a wide variety of difficulties. For others, the trek may be more manageable. So, whether by one way or another, we who would sit in the end with Christ at God’s right hand, must be committed to following through whatever kind of journey unfolds before us.

We are taking the bread and fruit of the vine to indicate that commitment regardless of the pattern that unfolds for us in living out our discipleship between now and then.
