A Mark of Christians

Virgil Warren, christir.org PDF

When we do something, we say something; when we do something, we teach something. Breaking bread together “proclaims Christ’s death till he returns” (1 Corinthians 11:26). Paul notes what happened and what it meant.

His comment also splices calvary and Christ’s return. We keep that point in mind during this “meantime” era. We reach back to grasp his death and reach forward to take hold of his return. The former, verified by his resurrection, undergirds our confidence in the latter, which includes our own resurrection. What we have already seen gives hope for what we have not yet seen. It means hope in the meantime. This observance is a “remark” we make to each other, and a mark of the faith that others see.
