A Way to Remember

We dare not forget about the past, because it has so much to do with creating the possibilities that have arisen from it. We use various ways of connecting to crucial events that flow down to us. Besides simply remembering, we carry out rituals, we build memorials, we use emblems to bridge the gap between then and now.

We also sing songs like “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” The emblems are a way of putting us there, emblems Jesus himself instituted so we would continue to be mindful of him like he was mindful of us. That is why he did not do anything to avoid the cross.

These emblems pledge us likewise not to do anything that blocks out the message of the cross to us.
