Carrying Through
“Well begun, half done”; but “half done is not done.” Laying a foundation does not give us a place to live. Cutting firewood does not keep us warm. Going to the store does not feed a family. Resisting Satan’s temptations in the beginning would not have sufficed to offset caving in to them at Calvary—as in “come down from the cross.” Jesus would not have “finished” the Father’s will for his life in our realm.
In the extreme, Jesus modeled carry-through in godly living and thereby obtained for us a firm foundation for salvation. Our carrying through to the end is the Father’s condition for giving us the benefits of that foundation
The command to observe these emblems amounts to an exhortation to remain faithful to the end and so receive the crown of life.
