Christ’s Final Work
Work is productive doing; it stresses the intended consequence of effort. Christ’s “work” on the cross completed his sinless life. It resulted in becoming the sinless One we devote ourselves to in this observance.
So, beyond pledging allegiance, we are renewing efforts at working like him in self-sacrifice to God and the good of other people.
Christian observance does not consist of going through religious motions. The Lord’s Supper is no exception. It is doing something for effect, in this case renewed commitment to doing like he did for the reasons he did.
