In Living Color
A black-and-white picture lacks color. A snapshot lacks movement. Watching a party of friends on TV lacks the experience of participating. Illustrations like these lack an element that would make them better, more real, more interesting, more fulfilling.
Existing is less than living because it lacks what we call meaning. Christ came to give us life and to give it more abundantly, the sense of value that comes from friendship with our creator, the sense that he cares about us.
The bread and juice stand for the body and blood that Jesus gave up for us in his final act, his greatest expression of righteousness, his most important obedience to the Father. Taking these emblems reminds us of what he did and expresses our devotion to the One that the Father considders us as like because of that commitment.
