Something Real Here
These emblems do not represent an idea but an event; more particularly they are reminders of a personal event and the features that involves; “Do this in remembrance of me.”
These notations relate to comments about theory versus practice. Life in Christ is not something theoretical, something abstract or distant, something applicable to earlier times. We are people, and our needs are real and present like they have been in the past all along the way.
The person of Christ, his life and death, address a continuing universal issue: relationship to God and each other, the behaviors and sins that negatively affect the peace and love that we all need and want. Christ’s supreme goodness that is remembered here and our commitment to him for what he has done for us, deal with reversing, healing, undoing the consequences of behaviors that lie at the source of human unhappiness. The emblems testify to the goodness available to us and the joy that comes from dealing with that problem.
