The Humility of God
“Take the attitude that Christ Jesus took. Although he was existing in the form of deity, he did not consider it something to cling to. He emptied himself and took on the form of a servant in the likeness of a man. Being found in the form of a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death on a cross” (Philippians 2:5-8).
So, humility participates in the very foundation of our faith and the salvation that lies at the heart of it. Consequently, when we observe the Lord’s Supper, we observe the humility that characterized the One we are remembering and honoring here. The best way to honor him is to follow his example of humility when we leave this gathering. As we carry the emblems away inside us, so we can also carry with us the mark of Christ himself: his humility.
