Showers of Blessings

041766

Sunday. SPECIAL BLESSINGS. Although some blessings come impartially to everybody, special blessings come to the ones that God has given special responsibilities. Showers of rain and floods of light make everybody happy, but showers of manna came only to the wandering Israelites that God was delivering from Egyptian slavery. (Read Matthew 20:23; Acts 14:15-17; Exodus 16:4-12.)

Monday. UNEXPECTED BLESSINGS. Lot “entertained angels unawares.” He offered his home to two strangers as a shelter against the night and the sin of Sodom. God confirmed his righteousness by saving him from destruction. We don’t anticipate some blessings and opportunities as we just move along through our routines. God rewards us simply for living acceptably day in and day out. (Read Matthew 25:14-30.)

Tuesday. UNUSED BLESSINGS. We should not expect anything more from God if we don’t use what he’s already given us. Gifts and talents don’t have much practical value unless we use them. And if we don’t, those gifts and talents will pass from us and go others, because to everyone that uses more will be given, and the ones that don’t use what they have will lose them. (Read Matthew 25:14-30.)

Wednesday. MISUSED BLESSINGS. The ground God waters is cursed if it grows weeds instead of crops. Likewise, people are cursed when they use God’s blessings to his shame rather than to his glory. Unproductive ground is burned off. What will happen to us that use good minds for evil thoughts and healthy bodies for sinful deeds? (Read Hebrews 6:8.).

Thursday. REJECTED BLESSINGS. Rejecting God’s blessings is probably worse than neglecting them. We make no effort when we neglect. But when we reject, we make effort against God. Hearing the Word and rejecting it will be as disastrous in our own day as the forty years of wandering were to the rebellious Israelites who, after God saved them from Egypt, refused to trust him enough to follow him into Canaan. (Read Numbers 14:1-35.)

Friday. USED BLESSINGS. Blessings used properly are like rain absorbed by soil that has high yields to those who have plowed ground. If we use blessings properly, they will lead to other blessings from God. (Read Hebrews 6:7.)

Saturday. GREATEST BLESSINGS. Since the day mankind began to sin, God has been unfolding his plan for saving them from sin. “In the fulness of time, we today have the greatest responsibility toward God, because we have received the most “Shower of Blessings.” (Read Hebrews 2:1-3.)
