GOD’S WORD TO THE WISE

Sunday. Some might say that today’s world no longer needs the ancient gospel, but in so saying they demonstrate that they are unaware of the content and purpose of God’s word. The advance of time and technology does not affect the truths that the Lord has revealed to us. Loving our friends as much as ourselves is an example of a divine precept; it is not altered when our neighbor replaces a log cabin with a modern mansion. (Read Mark 12:28-31.)

Monday. A young man and a young lady are tempted to commit the same sins whether they “go a courtin’” in a horse and buggy or a Cadillac. Scientific advancement cannot change inborn human nature. The desire to fulfill the desires of the flesh still threatens the welfare of every young person. Christ’s message has always carried an effective warning against acts that destroy the joy of human friendship and the privilege of divine fellowship. (Read Galatians 5:22.)

Tuesday. When we’re little, a day is a long time, but the older we get, the faster time goes. School has started already; where did the summer go? Where has life gone? Life doesn’t last long enough to learn by experience everything we need to know. Knowing scripture will save us a lifetime of trying to “live and learn” even what we can learn that way. (Read James 4:14.)

Wednesday. “If I had my life to live over . . . .” Young people that want to sow some wild oats before settling down learn too late that their approach to life leaves no time to erase their soiled reputation, to live in true happiness, and to prepare for the next life. The Bible could have warned them if they would have listened. (Read Hebrews 3:13.)

Thursday. People know their own thoughts better than anyone else does. To a greater extent, only God knows his own will. We would be totally ignorant of his intentions for us if he had not told us what he expected of us. Science cannot investigate the spiritual realm; divine revelation provides the only source of divine knowledge. (Read 1 Corinthians 2:11.)

Friday. Wherever it’s been available, the Bible has been a best seller because it has a message for everybody. When we were very young, we delighted to hear stories from the Bible. Aged people find the Bible a source of comfort in their years of failing strength and health. For us there’s the challenge to a worthwhile and satisfying future from now till then. (Read Song of Solomon 12:1.)

Saturday. Where else but in the Bible can we learn how to be saved—or that we need to be? Now that we are old enough to understand God’s will, he holds us responsible for what we do. Our destiny lies in our own hands. It is time to search out our destiny and how to get there. (Read Philippians 2:12.)
