COLOSSIANS 3:18-4:1:  MAJOR IDEAS

Virgil Warren, PhD

Marriage, parenting, and business are all interpersonal processes.

These relationships are specialized IP processes that have additional features.

Additional features must be added in such a way that they do not vitiate their                                 underlying interpersonal character.

Theory of Christian leadership

            “Headship”/“deference” refers to relative responsibility.

“Authority” comes into the picture only as a reinforcement for responsibility.

Four types of systems driven respectively by four different things

            Interpersonal driven by influence

            Legal driven by authority

            Natural driven by force

            Metaphysical driven by form

Three means of affecting the actions of others.  In descending order of idealness, they are:

            Influence

            Authority

            Force

Using the interpersonal to ameliorate less than ideal circumstances

How exert influence on other people?
