1 John Chapter 5
Victory by Faith
1 Everybody that believes Jesus is the ChristMessiah has been begotten by God, and everybody that loves the begetter loves the begotten. 2 We can tell we love God’s children by whether we love God and do what he says. 3 Loving God means keeping his commandments without feeling like they’re burdensome. 4 The ones God begets triumph over the world, and faith makes that triumph possible. 5 Who triumphs over the world except the one that believes Jesus is God’s Son?
1 Jn 5:1-5
Witnesses for Christ
6 Jesus Christ came by water (at his baptism) and blood (on his cross), not just by water. The Spirit is the One that bears witness, because the Spirit is characterized by truth. 7 There are three witnesses: 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and they agree. 9 We accept what people tell us; what God tells us is more important. God has told us about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in his Son accepts what God has told us; whoever doesn’t, makes God a liar. 11 God has told us that eternal life lies in the Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has that life; whoever doesn’t have him, doesn’t have it.
1 Jn 5:6-12
Confidence in Christ
13 I’ve written these things to you that believe in God’s Son in order to make you confident that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have with him: whatever we ask for according to his will he listens to. 15 If we know he listens to what we ask for, we know he answers what we ask for. 1 Jn 5:13-15
16 If you see a fellow believer doing some sin that doesn’t lead to death, ask God and he’ll give him life. There is a kind of sin that does lead to death; I’m not saying you should ask about that. 17 All unrighteousness is sin, but there are sins that don’t lead to death. 1 Jn 5:16-17
18 People that God begets don’t practice sinning; they keep themselves from sinning, and the evil one doesn’t touch them. 19 We belong to God, and the world belongs to the evil one. 20 God’s Son came so we could understand what’s true. We’re in the true One, God’s Son Jesus Christ. He’s true deity and eternal life. 21 Little children, stay away from idols.

SECOND JOHN
Salutation
1 The Elder to the elect lady and her children thatpl I really love—as does everybody that knows the truth— 2 because of the truth that’s in us and with us forever. 3 We’ll have grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Jesus ChristMessiah, the Son of the Father in truth and love. 2 Jn 1-3
Remaining in Truth and Love
4 I was so happy to find yoursg children living in the truth the Father commanded us. 5 Now I urge you, lady—not as some new commandment but what we’ve had all along: love one another 6 and so be living his way. 7 Many deceivers have gone out who don’t agree that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. They’re deceivers and antichrist. 8 Watch that you not lose what you’ve gained, but receive a full reward. 9 Anybody that goes out on his own and doesn’t stay in Christ’s teaching doesn’t have God. The one that stays in his teaching has both the Father and the Son. 10 If a person doesn’t bring that teaching, don’t invite him into your house or greet him. 11 Whoever greets him shares in his evil work. 2 Jn 4-11
Farewell
12 I have lots to tell youpl but not in writing. I hope to speak to you in person to make your joy complete.
13 The children of your elect sister say hello. 2 Jn 12-13

THIRD JOHN
Salutation
1 The Elder to Gaius, that I truly love.
2 I pray that you’ll be as prosperous and healthy in every way as you are in your soul. 3 I was so happy when the brothers reported that you really live by the truth. 4 Nothing makes me happier than hearing that my children are doing that. 3 Jn 1-4
Cooperation and Opposition
5 Friendsg, you’re acting faithfully in what you do for your fellow believers in ChristMessiah, especially for the ones you don’t know. 6 In front of the church, they’ve testified to your love. You do well to send them forward in a way worthy of God. 7 They went out for The Name, not taking anything from Gentiles. 8 We should support servants like them and so become their true fellow workers. 3 Jn 5-8
9 I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to take charge among them, wouldn’t receive us. 10 So if I come, I’ll remind people how he slanders us, and—more than that—doesn’t receive disciples, stops the ones that want to, and excommunicates them from the church. 3 Jn 9-10
11 Imitate good, not evil. Whoever does what’s good belongs to God; whoever does what’s evil hasn’t seen him. 12 Demetrius receives good testimony from everybody, from the truth itself, and from us. You know you can rely on what we say. 3 Jn 11-12
Farewell
13 I’ve had so much I want to tell yousg but not in writing. 14 I hope to see you soon and speak to you in person. Peace to you. Your friends send their greetings. Greet your friends by name. 3 Jn 13-14
