Deuteronomy Chapter 27

The Altar on Mount Ebal

1 Then Moses and the elders in Israel charged the people,

“Keep the commandments I’m giving you. 2 When you cross the Jordan, set up large stones coated with lime. 3 Write this Law on them clearly so you can go to the promised land that’s flowing with milk and honey. 4 Set up these stones on Mount Ebal. 5 Build an altar there out of uncut stones—don’t use any iron tools on them. 6 Offer a burnt offering to the LORD on it, 7 and sacrifice peace offerings. Eat there and celebrate in his presence.” [ 8 ]

9 Then Moses and the Levitical priests told Israel,

“Be still and listen. Today you’ve become a people for the LORD your God; 10 so obey him.”

Curses from Mount Ebal

11 Moses charged them,

12 “When you cross the Jordan, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin will stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people. 13 Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali will stand on Mount Ebal to pronounce a curse. 14 With a loud voice the Levites will answer the people of Israel,                        

Deut 27:11-14

15 ‘Accursed is anyone that makes an idol or molten image—a thing detestable to the LORD, the work of a craftsman—and sets it up secretly.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

16 ‘Accursed is anyone that disrespects father or mother.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

17 ‘Accursed is anyone that moves a boundary marker.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

18 ‘Accursed is anyone that misleads someone that’s blind.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

19 ‘Accursed is anyone that distorts justice with a foreigner, orphan, or

widow.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

20 ‘Accursed is the man that lies with his father’s wife; he has uncovered

his father’s cloak.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

21 ‘Accursed is the man that lies with any animal.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

22 ‘Accursed is the man that lies with his sister, the daughter of his father

or his mother.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

23 ‘Accursed is the man that lies with his mother-in-law.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

24 ‘Accursed is anyone that strikes another person in secret.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

25 ‘Accursed is anyone that accepts a bribe to assassinate an innocent person.’

                  The people will say, ‘Amen.’

26 ‘Accursed is everyone that doesn’t conform to this Law.’

The people will say, ‘Amen.’
