Exodus Chapter 6
Promise of Deliverance
1 The LORD told Moses,
“Now you’ll see what I’ll do to Pharaoh. He’ll have to let them go. I’ll make him send them out of his country. 2 I’m Yahveh. 3 I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as ‘God Almighty’ [El-Shaddai]. I didn’t make myself known to them by my name ‘Yahveh.’ 4 I made a covenant with them to give them Canaan, where they were living as nomads. 5 I’ve heard the Israelites’ groaning because the Egyptians are holding them in slavery, and I’ve remembered my covenant. 6 Tell the Israelites, ‘I’ll take you out from under Egyptian bondage and redeem you with power and great acts of judgment. 7 I’ll take you to be my people and be your God. You’ll know I’m the LORD your God who brought you out from under the burdens the Egyptians put on you. 8 I’ll take you to the land I swore to give Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.’”
9 Moses told the people, but they wouldn’t listen. They were beat down by the cruel slavery.
Ex 5:22-6:9
10The LORD said to Moses, 11 “Go tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites leave his country.”
12 But Moses said, “They haven’t listened to me. Why would Pharaoh listen to me? I’m not a good speaker.”
13 The LORD gave Moses and Aaron a charge for Pharaoh and the people of Israel about getting the Israelites out of Egypt.
Ex 6:10-13
14 The Heads of Families
The sons of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn: Hanoch and Pallu, Hezron and Carmi
15 The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohab, Jachin, Zohar—and Shaul, the son
of a Canaanite woman
16 The sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon, Kohath, Merari. Levi lived
137 years.
17The sons of Gershon: Libni, Shimei
18The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.
19The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi
20Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed. She had Aaron and
Moses. Amram lived 137 years.
21The sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri
22The sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Sithri
23Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of
Nahshon. She had Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
24 The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph
25Aaron’s son Eleazar married one of the daughters of
Putiel. She had Phinehas.
26 It was the same Aaron and Moses that the LORD told, “Take the Israelites out of Egypt according to their armies.” 27 They were the ones that spoke to Pharaoh about taking them out.
Ex 6:14-27
28 That day the LORD told Moses, 29 “I’m the LORD. Tell Pharaoh everything I tell you.”
30 But Moses said, “I’m not a good speaker. How will he listen to me?”
