They left right in front of the Egyptians 4 while they were burying the firstborn that the LORD struck. The LORD also carried out judgments against their gods.

Num 33:38-49
50-51 The LORD told Moses to tell Israel there,
“When you cross the Jordan into Canaan, 52 drive out the people, destroy their carved stones and molten images, and tear down their pagan shrines. 53 Take the land and live in it because I’ve given it to you. 54 You’ll inherit land by allotment per clan. Bigger clans will inherit more; the smaller ones will inherit less. Their allotments will fall within their tribe. 55 If you don’t drive out the people, they’ll be pricks in your eyes and thorns in your sides and cause you trouble. 56 I’ll end up doing to you what I intend to do to them.” Num 33:50-56
