1 Chronicles Chapter 6
1 The descendants of LEVI: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari
2 The descendants of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
3 The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam.
The sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
4 Eleazar was father of Phinehas Avi- 5 Abishua Avi-Bukki Avi- 6 Uzzi Avi-Zerahiah Avi- 7 Meraioth Avi-Amariah Avi- 8 Ahitub Avi-Zadok Avi- 9 Ahimaaz Avi-Azariah Avi- 10 Johanan Avi-Azariah (priest in the Temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem), and 11 Azariah was father of Amariah Avi- 12 Ahitub Avi-Zadok Avi- 13 Shallum Avi-Hilkiah Avi- 14 Azariah Avi-Seraiah Avi- 15 Jehozadak, who went into exile when Yahveh took Judah and Jerusalem away by Nebuchadnezzar. 1 Ch 6:1-15
16 The sons of Levi were Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
17 The sons of Gershom were Libni/Ladan and Shimei.
18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
19 The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
20 The sons of Gershom were Libni Avi-Jahath Avi-Zimmah Avi- 21 Joah Avi-Iddo Avi-Zerah Avi-Jeatherai.
22 The sons of Kohath were Amminadab Avi-Korah Avi-Assir Avi- 23 Elkanah Avi-Ebiasaph Avi-Assir Avi- 24 Tahath Avi-Uriel Avi-Uzziah Avi-Shaul.
25 The sons of Elkanah were Amasai and Ahimoth, 26 The sons of Elkanah were Zophai Avi-Nahath Avi- 27 Eliab Avi-Jeroham Avi-Elkanah.
28 The sons of Samuel were Joel his firstborn and Ahijah second.
29 The sons of Merari were Mahli Avi-Libni Avi-Shimei Avi-Uzzah Avi- 30 Shimea Avi-Haggiah Avi-Asaiah. 1 Ch 6:16-30
31 These are the ones David appointed to sing in Yahveh’s Tabernacle after the Ark rested there. 32 They served in song at the Tent of Meeting till Solomon built Yahveh’s Temple in Jerusalem. They served in their order.
33 These are the ones with their sons that served. From the Kohathites were Heman the singer son of Joel Ben-Samuel ( 34 Ben-Elkanah Ben-Jeroham Ben-Eliel Ben-Toah 35 Ben-Zuph Ben-Elkanah Ben-Mahath Ben-Amasai 36 Ben-Elkanah Ben-Joel Ben-Azariah Ben-Zephaniah 37 Ben-Tahath Ben-Assir Ben-Ebiasaph Ben-Korah 38 Ben-Izhar Ben-Kohath) Ben-Levi Ben-Israel.
39 Heman’s brother Asaph stood on his right, that is, Asaph Ben-Berechiah (Ben-Shimea 40 Ben-Michael Ben-Baaseiah Ben-Malchijah 41 Ben-Ethni Ben-Zerah Ben-Adaiah 42 Ben-Ethan Ben-Zimmah Ben-Shimei 43 Ben-Jahath Ben-Gershom) Ben-Levi.
44 On the left were their relatives the sons of Merari: Ethan Ben-Kishi (Ben-Abdi Ben-Malluch 45 Ben-Hashabiah Ben-Amaziah Ben-Hilkiah 46 Ben-Amzi Ben-Bani Ben-Shemer 47 Ben-Mahli Ben-Mushi Ben-Merari) Ben-Levi.
48 Their relatives the Levites were appointed for the service of the Tabernacle, God’s house. I Ch 6:31-48
49 Aaron and his sons offered on the altar of burnt offering and the altar of incense for the work of the Holy of Holies, and atoned for Israel like Moses had commanded.
50 These are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar Avi-Phinehas Avi-Abishua Avi- 51 Bukki Avi-Uzzi Avi-Zerahiah Avi- 52 Meraioth Avi-Amariah Avi-Ahitub Avi- 53 Zadok Avi-Ahimaaz.
54 These are their settlements according to their camps within their borders. To the descendants of Aaron of the clans of the Kohathites (Theirs was the first lot.), 55 they gave Hebron in Judah with its pastures around it. 56 But the fields around the town and its villages they gave to Caleb Ben-Jephunneh. 57 To Aaron’s descendants they gave the following cities of refuge: Hebron, Libnah with its pastures, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pastures, 58 Hilen with its pastures, Debir with its pastures, 59 Ashan with its pastures, and Beth-shemesh with its pastures. 60 From Benjamin they gave Geba with its pastures, Allemeth with its pastures, and Anathoth with its pastures—13 towns. 1 Ch 6:49-60
61 To the rest of Kohath’s descendants, they gave 10 towns by lot from the Manasseh half-tribe.
62 To Gershom’s descendants according to their families, they gave 13 towns in Bashan from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh.
63 To Merari’s descendants according to their families, they gave by lot 12 towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
64 Israel’s descendants gave the Levites the towns with their pastures. 65 From the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, they gave the towns by lot.
66 Some families of Kohath’s descendants had towns from the tribe of Ephraim. 67 They gave them the following cities of refuge with their pastures: Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, Gezer, 68 Jokmeam, Beth-horon, 69 Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon. 70 From the Manasseh half-tribe they gave towns with their pastures: Aner and Bileam for the rest of the descendants of Kohath. 1 Ch 6:61-70
71 To Gershom’s descendants they gave towns with their pastures from the family of the Manasseh half-tribe: Golan in Bashan and Ashtaroth. 72 From the tribe of Issachar they gave towns with their pastures: Kedesh, Daberath, 73 Ramoth, Anem. 74 From Asher they gave towns with their pastures: Mashal, Abdon, 75 Hukok, and Rehob. 76 From Naphtali they gave towns with their pastures: Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim.
77 To the rest of the Levites, the sons of Merari, from the tribe of Zebulun they gave towns with their pastures: Rimmono and Tabor. 78 On the east side of the Jordan, from Reuben they gave towns with their pastures: Bezer in the open country, Jahzah, 79 Kedemoth, and Mephaath. 80 From Gad they gave towns with their pastures: Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim, 81 Heshbon, and Jazer. 1 Ch 6:71-81
