1 Chronicles Chapter 18

David’s Military Victories

1 After that, David defeated the Philistines and took Gath and its surrounding towns. 2 He defeated Moab and they brought tribute. 3 He defeated Hadadezer, king of Zobah, as far as Hamath and secured his rule all the way to the Euphrates River. 4 He took 1,000 chariots, 7,000 cavalry, and 20,000 foot soldiers. He hamstrung the chariot horses but reserved enough for 100 chariots.

5 When the Arameans from Damascus came to help Hadadezer, David killed 22,000 of them. 6 He put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans brought tribute. 7 He took the gold shields that Hadadezer’s officers carried and brought them to Jerusalem. 8 From Tibhath and Cun, towns of Hadadezer, he took a large amount of bronze, which Solomon used to make the bronze sea, pillars, and bronze utensils.          1 Ch 18:1-8

9 Tou/Toi, king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated Hadadezer’s whole army. 10 He sent his son Hadoram to greet him and bless him for it. Hadoram brought all kinds of gold, silver, and bronze articles. 11 David dedicated them to Yahveh with the silver and gold he’d carried off from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalek.

12 In addition, Abishai Ben-Zeruiah defeated 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. 13 He put garrisons in Edom, and the Edomites served him. Yahveh helped him wherever he went.

14 David ruled Israel and administered justice and goodness for his people.

            15 Joab Ben-Zeruiah was over the army;

            Jehoshaphat Ben-Ahilud was recorder;

            16 Zadok Ben-Ahitub and Abimelech Ben-Abiathar were priests;

            Shavsha was secretary;

            17 Benaiah Ben-Jehoiada was captain of David’s bodyguard;

            David’s sons were chiefs at his side.                                                        1 Ch 18:9-17
