1 Chronicles Chapter 27

Military Divisions

1 These were heads of families, commanders of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in regard to the divisions that came in and went out month by month all year. Each division numbered 24,000. 

2 Jashobeam Ben-Zabdiel was responsible for the first division for the first month. 3 He descended from Perez and was chief of the commanders of the army for the first month.

4 Dodai the Ahohite and his division were responsible for the second month with Mikloth as chief officer.

5 The third commander of the army for the third month was Benaiah Ben-Jehoiada the priest, as chief. 6 This Benaiah was the most elite soldier of the 30 and responsible for 30. His son Ammizabad was responsible for his division. 1 Ch 27:1-6

7 The fourth for the fourth month was Joab’s brother Asahel and his son Zebadiah. 

8 The fifth for the fifth month was commander Shamhuth the Izrahite.

9 The six for the sixth month was Ira Ben-Ikkesh the Tekoite.

10 The seventh for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, descendants of Ephraim.

11 The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbecai the Hushathite from the Zerahites.

12 The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite from the Benjamites.

13 The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite from the Zerahites.

14 The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, descendant of Ephraim.

15 The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite of Othniel.   1 Ch 27:7-15

Tribal Leaders

16 In charge of the tribes of Israel

The chief officer for the Reubenites was Eliezer Ben-Zichri;

for the Simeonites, Shephatiah Ben-Maacah;

17for Levi, Hashabiah Ben-Kemuel;

for Aaron, Zadok;

18 for Judah, Elihu, David’s brother;

for Issachar, Omri Ben-Michael;

19for Zebulun, Ishmaiah Ben-Obadiah;

for Naphtali, Jeremoth Ben-Azriel;

20 for Ephraim, Hoshea Ben-Azaziah;

for the Manasseh half-tribe, Joel Ben-Pedaiah;

21 for the Manasseh half-tribe in Gilead, Iddo Ben-Zechariah;

for Benjamin, Jaasiel Ben-Abner;

22for Dan, Azarel Ben-Jeroham.

Those were the officers of the tribes of Israel.

23 But David didn’t count the ones under 20 because Yahveh had said he would multiply Israel like the stars in the sky. 24 Joab Ben-Zeruiah had started to count them but didn’t finish. Wrath came on Israel because of it, and the number wasn’t included in The Chronicles of King David.

25 Azmaveth Ben-Adiel oversaw the king’s storehouses. 

Jonathan Ben-Uzziah oversaw the storehouses in the country, towns, villages, and 

towers.

26 Ezri Ben-Chelub oversaw the farmers that plowed the ground.

27 Shimei the Ramathite oversaw vineyards.

Zabdi the Shiphmite oversaw what the vineyards produced and what was stored in

cellars.

28 Baal-hanan the Gederite oversaw the olive and sycamore trees in the western foothills.

Joash oversaw the stores of oil.                                                                          1 Ch 27:23-28

29 Shitrai the Sharonite oversaw the cattle that grazed in Sharon.

Shaphat Ben-Adlai oversaw the cattle in the valleys.

30 Obil the Ishmaelite oversaw the camels.

Jehdeiah the Meronothite oversaw the donkeys.

31 Jaziz the Hagrite oversaw the flocks.

Those oversaw David’s property.                                                                       1 Ch 27:29-31

32 Jonathan, David’s uncle, was an intelligent advisor and secretary.

Jehiel Ben-Hachmoni tutored David’s sons.

33 Ahithophel was advisor to the king.

Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend.

34 Jehoiada Ben-Benaiah and Abiathar succeededpl Ahithophel.

Joab commanded the king’s army.
