Psalms Chapter 105

1 Be grateful to Yahveh; call on him;

      tell the nations what all he’s done.

2 Sing praises to him;

      talk about the amazing acts.

3 Take pride in his holy name;

      let the people be happy that rely on him.

4 Rely on Yahveh and his strength;

      depend on him always.

5 Remember his amazing miracles,

      the judgments he’s rendered,

            6 descendants of Abraham his servant,

            children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

7 He’s Yahveh our God,

      who renders judgment all over the world.

Ps 105:1-7

8 He remembers his eternal covenant,

      the message he commanded to a thousand generations,

      9 his covenant with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.

         10his statute confirmed to Jacob

            as an ongoing covenant.

11 He swore, “I’ll give you Canaan to inherit.”

12 When they were just a few,

            temporary residents,

         13they wandered from nation to nation,

            from kingdom to kingdom.

14 He didn’t let anybody oppress them;

            he reprimanded kings on their behalf:

         15“Don’t touch my anointed ones;

            don’t harm my prophets.”

Ps 105:8-15

16 He called for a famine in the land

      and cut off their food supply.

17 He sent a man ahead of them,

      Joseph, sold as a slave.

18 They hurt his feet with restraints

         and put an iron collar around his neck

      19 till God’s message came to him

         and revealed what kind of man he was.

20 The king released him;

      the people’s ruler let him go.

21 He made him master of his household,

            steward over everything he owned,

      22 even to imprison his officials if he saw fit

            so he could teach his elders wisdom.

Ps 105:16-22

23 Then Israel/Jacob went down to Egypt

         and lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham.

24 God multiplied his people

      and made them stronger than their enemies,

                  25whose hearts he turned against his people

            to mistreat them.

26 Then he sent Moses his servant

            and Aaron his chosen one

                  27to perform his amazing acts among them,

                  miracles in the land of Ham:

         28he engulfed their land in darkness

            when they defied him and his message;

         29he turned their water to blood

            and killed their fish;

Ps 105:23-29

         30frogs overran the land

            even into the king’s bedrooms;

         31swarms of flies came,

                  and gnats infested the whole region;

         32he gave them hail for rain,

            and lightning flashed in the land;

         33he struck down their grapevines and fig trees

                  and stripped their trees;

         34he summoned countless young locusts to come

                  35and eat the vegetation in the country

            and devour the produce from the ground;

         36he struck the Egyptians’ firstborn,

            the first issue of their strength.

Ps 105:30-36

37 Then he brought Israel out with silver and gold;

      nobody among the tribes faltered.

38 The Egyptians were glad when they left

      because they’d come to dread them.

39 He spread a cloud over them

      and sent fire to light up the night.

40 They asked, and he brought quail

      and satisfied them with manna from the sky.

41 He opened a rock and water came out

      and ran into the desert like a stream.

42 He remembered his sacred promise

      to Abraham his servant.

43 He brought his people out with joy and celebration.

44 He gave them the lands of nations,

            and they harvested what those nations had grown;

         45he did it so they would keep his statutes

                  and observe his laws.

                                                Hallelujah!
