Psalms Chapter 114

¹ When Israel left Egypt—

      when the House of Jacob came out

            from a nation with a different language—

² the land of Judah became his sanctuary;

      Israel became his kingdom.

³ The Red Sea saw them coming and backed away;

      the Jordan quit flowing.

⁴ The mountains jumped like rams;

      the hills skipped around like lambs.

⁵ What’s the matter with you, Sea, that you’re backing away,

      or Jordan, that you’ve quit flowing,

         ⁶or mountains, that you jump like rams,

         or hills, that you skip around like lambs?

⁷ Earth, tremble at the Lord, Jacob’s God,

         ⁸who turned rock into water

            and flint into a fountain.
