Psalms Chapter 83

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph

¹ God, don’t keep quiet; don’t be silent.

² Your enemies are making an uproar;

      those who hate you are exalting themselves.

³ They’re plotting against your people,

         conspiring against them ⁴ and saying,

            “Let’s wipe out their nation

                  so no one will remember them anymore.”

⁵ Together they’re signing a treaty against you:

            ⁶ Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites;

                  ⁷Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek;

            Philistia and the people in Tyre;

                  ⁸Assyria has joined them too;

            they’re allied with Lot’s descendants.                       

Ps 83:1-8

⁹ Deal with them like you dealt with Midian,

      with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River,

         ¹⁰that you destroyed at En-dor,

      that became like manure on the ground.

¹¹ Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb

      and their officials like Zebah and Zalmunna,

         ¹²who said, “Let’s take over God’s pastures.”               

Ps 83:9-12

¹³ Make them like whirling dust,

      like chaff in the wind.

¹⁴ Like a wildfire that burns a whole forest,

      like a flame that sets mountains on fire;

         ¹⁵chase them with your storm;

      terrify them with your tempest.

¹⁶ Write shame all over their faces

      till they submit to you, Yahveh.

¹⁷ Frighten them forever;

      let them die in disgrace

         ¹⁸so they’ll know that you

      are supreme over the whole world.
