Psalms Chapter 86

A Prayer of David

1 Listen, Yahveh, and answer me

      because I’m troubled and in need.

2 Preserve my life because I’m a godly man;

      save me because I trust in you.

3 Be gracious to me

      because I call out to you all the time.

4 Make me happy

      because I hold up my life to you.

5 You’re good, ready to forgive,

      and abundant in enduring love

            to everyone that calls on you.

6 Hear my prayer, Yahveh;

      listen to my petition.

7 When I’m in trouble, I call on you

      because you answer me.

8 There’s no one like you among the gods,

      no other deeds like yours.

9 All the nations you’ve made will come

                  to worship you and honor you,

         10because you’re great and do great things;

            only you are God.

Ps 86:1-10

11 Teach me your way;

      I’ll follow your truth;

      make me consistently respect you.

12 I’ll thank you, Yahveh my God, with all my heart

      and honor you forever

13 because you show me such enduring love;

      you’ve rescued me from the depths of Sheol.

Ps 86:11-13

14 Arrogant people are attacking me, God;

      a gang of violent men wants to kill me;

      they don’t care about you.

15 But you’re a merciful, gracious God,

      slow to get angry

      and abundant in enduring love and faithfulness.

16 Turn to me and be gracious;

         give me your strength;

      save your servant’s son.

17 Show me a sign of your favor

      so the ones that hate me can see it and be put to shame,

      because you’ve helped me and reassured me.
