who gave birth to Jesus,
called Messiah.

17So all the generations from Abraham to David (are) fourteen generation, and from David to the carrying-off of-Babylon (are) fourteen generations, and from the carrying-off of-Babylon to [the] Messiah (are) fourteen generations.

18 The birth of-Jesus Messiah was thus. The mother of-him, Mary, having-been-engaged to-[the] Joseph, before2 their coming-together she-was-found having in (the) womb/pregnant by (the) Holy Spirit. 19 And Joseph the husband of-her, being righteous and not willing to-make-a-public example-out-of her, planned to-divorce her privately. 20 And he having-thought-about these-things, behold (an) angel of-(the)-Lord in (a) dream appeared to-him, saying, “Joseph, son of-David, do┘not└be-afraid to-take Mary as-the wife of-you, for the-one begotten in her is from/by (the) Holy Spirit. 21 And she-will-bear (a) son, and you-will-call the name of-him Jesus; for he will-save the people of-him from the sins of-them.” 22 And this all has-happened in-order-that the-thing might-be-fulfilled spoken by (the) Lord through the prophet, saying,

            23 “Behold, the/a virgin will-have-in (the) womb/will-be pregnant,

And she-will-bear (a) son,

And they-will-call the name of-him ‘Emmanuel,’”

that is, translated, ‘[The] God (is) with us.’

24 And [the] Joseph, having-arisen from [the] sleep, did as the angel of-the Lord commanded and took the wife of-him, 25 and did┘not└know her/have marital relations with her until2 she-bore (a) son, and he called the name of-him Jesus.
