Matthew Chapter 4

1 Then [the] Jesus was-led by the Spirit into the desert to-be-tempted by the devil. 2 And having-fasted for-forty days and forty nights, he-was-hungry afterwards.

3 And the tempter, having-come, said to-him, “If you-are (the) Son of-[the] God, say [in-order]-that [the] these stones become loaves.”

4 And the/he, having-answered, said, “It-is-written,

‘[The/A] man shall┘not└live by bread alone,

                                    but by every word proceeding

                                    through (the) mouth of-God.’

5 Then the devil takes┘him└along into the holy city and stood him on the pinnacle of-the temple, 6 and says to-him, “If you-are (the) Son of-[the] God, throw yourself down, for it-is-written [that],

‘He-will-give-orders to-the angels of-him

and they-will-carry you on the/their hands,

                                    lest-ever you-strike the foot of-you against (a) rock.’

7 [The] Jesus said to-him, “Again it-is-written,

‘You-shall┘not└tempt (the) Lord the God of-you.’”

8 Again the devil takles┘him└along to (a) very high mountain, and shows him all the kingdoms of-the world and the glory of-them; 9 and he-said to-him, “I-will-give you all these-things if, having-fallen-down, you-worship me.’

10 Then [the] Jesus says to-him, “Go, Satan! For it-is-written,

‘You-shall-worship (the) Lord the God of-you,

And you-shall-serve him only.’”

11 Then [the] devil leaves him, and, behold, angels came-to-(him) and started-ministering to-him.

12 And [the] Jesus, having-heard that John was-arrested, withdrew into [the] Galilee. 13 And having-left [the] Nazareth, having-gone, he-dwelt in Capernaum [the] by-(the)-sea in (the) region[s] of-Zebulun and Naphtali 14 in-order-that the-thing having-been-spoken through Isaiah the prophet might-be-fulfilled, saying,

                        15 “Land of-Zebulun and land of-Naphtali,

(the) way of-(the)-sea, beyond the Jordan,

Galilee of-the Gentiles,

16 the people [the] sitting in darkness

                                    saw (a) bright/great light,

and to-the-ones sitting in (the) region and shadow of-death—

                                    to-them (the) light dawned.”

17 From then [the] Jesus began to-preach and to-say, “Repent, for the kingdom of-[the] heaven[s] came-near.”

18 And walking beside the Sea of-[the] Galilee, he-saw two brothers, Simon, the-one called Peter; and Andrew, the brother of-him, casting (a) net into the sea, for they-were fishermen. 19 And he-says to-them, “Come after me, and I-will-make you fishermen of-men.” 20 And immediately the/they, having-left the/their nets, followed him. 21 And having-gone-forward from-there, he-saw two other brothers, James the (son) of-Zebedee and John the brother of-him, in the/a boat with Zebedee the father of-them, mending the nets of-them; and he-called them. 22 And immediately the/they, having-left the boat and the father of-them, followed him.

23 And he-started-going-around in the whole Galilee, teaching in the synagogues of-them, and preaching the good-news of-the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every weakness among the people. 24 And the news of-him went-out in the whole Syria, and they-brought to-him all the-ones having evilly with-many sicknesses and ones-distressed with-pain, and demon-possessed-ones and epileptics and paralytics and he-healed them 25 And many crowds followed him from [the] Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea and beyond the Jordan.
